Making an Impact through Family and Community Engagement
Active investigation allows students to act as scientists using hands-on experiences to analyze the world around them. These real-world applications, like those used in FOSS® curriculum, take students outdoors in the community, connecting problem-solving to everyday life. Subsequently, this type of learning fosters engagement, creating a connection between communities, families, and students with the world that surrounds us.
So, have you ever considered ways to incorporate community engagement or citizen science into your lessons? Well, now’s your chance! April is Citizen Science Month, and our friends at SciStarter are giving you and your students a chance to contribute meaningful acts of science to help further actual scientific research through One Million Acts of Science! This program allows everyday citizens, adults and children, to participate in One Million Acts of Science across a variety of research fields.
