Extended Learning: Outside the Classroom and BEYOND!
Take science education beyond the classroom with hands-on exploration. The upcoming solar eclipse allows you to incorporate topics like the Earth, Sun, and our Solar System into your lessons. What better way to experience science in action than a total solar eclipse?

Here are some facts, stats, and tools to prepare your students for the upcoming solar event.

The last time there was a total Solar eclipse in the US was in 2017. This year the eclipse is expected to last twice as long for a total of about 4 1/2 minutes.

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The total solar eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean. The first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT.1

The path of the eclipse continues from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT.

Take a look at the table at the link below that provides the time that totality begins in some U.S. cities in the path of totality. These areas will also experience a partial eclipse before and after these times.
