Access and Equity in Education - Part 2!
In our last newsletter, we discussed how the FOSS program plays a critical role in four areas to support access and equity in science instruction: student engagement, classroom support strategies, school support systems, and home and community connections. This month we want to focus on how FOSS is Built for All Students.
Every child comes to school with unique experiences, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and a range of physical and cognitive attributes. The FOSS program addresses many of the needs of a diverse student population.
FOSS’ instructional design includes a wide range of learning modalities and provides intrinsic, as well as differentiated instruction opportunities. All the investigations are similarly structured to maximize full inclusion based on these fundamental guiding principles:
All students come to school with language and a wealth of knowledge and experiences that can be tapped into to enrich the learning experience for everyone
All students benefit from actively investigating scientific phenomena and engaging in the engineering design process
All students are capable of constructing meaning through collaborative social interactions
